"North of the River"
Korean DMZ - 1969
DMZ Novels is a creation of author Mark B. Higginson. The two works of fiction currently available include "North of the River," a powerful military saga of excitement and romance set in the often forgotten area of the Korean DMZ and "Pali," a suspense thriller that begins in the lovely Hawaiian Islands, but moves rapidly to the snow covered slopes of Aspen Colorado.

"North of the River" - Sometimes described as the "second Korean War," the period of 1966 thru 1969 was a bloody chapter along this second front to the Vietnam War. North Korean infiltrators, Republic of Korea (ROK) troops, and American soldiers all shed blood during this period of high alert and constant tension that often took the form of sudden and deadly confrontations.

"North of the River" is an exciting and graphic tale of a young Army officer's first tour of duty in the Korean DMZ of 1969. The fact that a low grade war was being fought in Korea at that time is generally unrecognized by the American people.

This story provides a fascinating and revealing view, full of humor, adventure, romance and an accurate portrayal of military life and life as a Red Cross "Donut Dolly" in this little known theater of operations. It moves quicky through a thirteen month tour until the reader crashes head on into the surprise action filled conclusion.

This novel is dedicated to those soldiers who have served along the Korean DMZ, especially those killed and wounded in action during their service there. And to those few women of the American Red Cross who supported them. And to my friends of long ago and far away.
