Casper "Cap" Pennington is a recently retired lieutenant colonel turned novelist, traveling with his lovely wife, Claire, on a business assignment to Honolulu. Intent on an enjoyable golf weekend on the island of Kauai, they are paired with a stranger who will eventually have an frightening impact on their lives. As time passes, a conspiracy of Wall Street stock manipulations, embezzlement, stolen drug formulas, kidnapping, and violent murders develops before their eyes.
Armed with little more than suspicions and failing to convince the local authorities of his beliefs, Cap Pennington enlists the help of his former Green Beret executive officer, Lincoln Hodge, to find the men they believe are responsible for the crimes. Leaving the tropical rainforests of Hawaii, Cap follows the suspects' trail to Aspen, Colorado, where he believes they may be hiding.
But just as the trail seems to lead nowhere, the desperate perpetrators lash out with an unexpected ferocity and cruelty that turns the hunters into the hunted and forever alters the lives of everyone involved. This fast paced thriller captures the reader early and never lets go.
